Because breast support is important for most mothers, selecting and being fitted for bras during pregnancy and nursing are important "to do's." In early pregnancy, most mothers will notice that their breasts grow at least one cup size. As pregnancy progresses, a mother's rib cage grows larger to accommodate room for the growing baby.  After pregnancy and with the onset of milk production, the rib cage lessens in size and for most new mothers, the breasts grow larger.  The best time to be fitted for bras during pregnancy is when the bras begin feeling too tight.  You can be fitted for nursing bras two to three weeks prior to your due date.  Keep in mind that the bra should be fitted on the first row of hooks and the cup should allow for some breast enlargement when milk production begins. Underwire bras are generally not recommended for use when nursing as they may be responsible for clogged milk ducts and mastitis.  Large breasted women should be able to find supportive and well fitted bras without wires.  Our staff at Simply MaMa are trained to help you find whatever size you need.  Most women find that they need at least three nursing bras - one on, one in the laundry, and a clean one waiting.
